Creation of a digital database of adjectival derivational morphology (GraBa)

The project involves the creation of a digital database of adjectives in the Croatian Church Slavonic language, with a focus on their word formation (derivatives and compounds). The work is based on the corpus compiled for the doctoral dissertation on adjective formation in Croatian Church Slavonic (Sudec 2010), which offers a detailed description of adjectival derivational morphology, including word-formation patterns, and elements (bases and affixes). Developing the database requires preparatory work, such as researching the possibilities of digital corpus processing options and reviewing examples of best practice. The stages of the work include: examining database design possibilities according to defined parameters (features); preparing the corpus for digital processing; creating the digital database based on these parameters; entering the corpus into the database; assigning individual features according to the defined parameters; and making the database publicly available. The project will facilitate further research and support the long-term development of a broader grammatical (morphological) database of Croatian Church Slavonic (encompassing the morphology of other word classes), thus providing a foundation for the continuation and further advancement of the project.
